After months of posting into “the void” I thought I might just need some help in how to build my Substack audience.
So I signed up for one of those group programs,
and found myself lost as one person in a group of many.
By many, I mean HUNDREDS.
The zoom workshops was one teacher lecturing to a crowd. The guest presentations were that one teacher interviewing an expert in front of a crowd.
“please hold your questions until the end. . .”
I did what I do every time I find myself in a one-to-many teaching scenario, I hid in the back, put my head down (turned off my camera) and quietly cried as I got more and more lost.
I’m not a one-to-many type student.
I refuse to be a one-to-many teacher.
As a sensitive soul, I don’t need information thrown at me like spitballs flying through the firehose I’ve been told to drink from.
I need connection, community, interaction, engagement.
This is the difference between instruction and education.
Instruction is the process of building-in, an expert on a subject builds a structure and puts it into the student.
Education is the process of pulling-out, a facilitator provides a space and experience so students can figure out things for themselves in their own ways.
Most of learning these days, both in schools and online programs is instruction based.
I’m an educator.
The Creator Retreat is education based.
The word Education comes from the Latin word educare which means “to pull out from within”
The Creator Retreat is built on the core value of education, providing the space and experience for participants to explore and figure things out for themselves, their way.
No lengthy slide-presentation lectures.
No sit-and-listen guest interviews.
No wait-til-the-end Q&A sessions.
We provide interactive workshops playshops where we will dig in together, get messy, get creative, play together, and come out the other side (and sometimes sideways) figuring things out that we didn’t expect to discover.
We can’t guarantee what you will learn, or how you will grow, or even that your Substack will get certain results. But we can promise you that if you show up, you will have an experience of a lifetime and pull things out of yourself that you didn’t know were there.
